WINTER ANGLING

Late Winter Fly Fishing

Winter's long days are slowly but surely receding into spring, February 24th saw a beautiful blue sky day and temperatures into the high 20's,
after spending a long morning snowboarding at Whiteface Mountain, I left with intentions to go ice fishing, but upon walking back to my truck, which I must cross The West Branch of the Ausable, I looked at the river and decided to give late winter a fly fishing try.
I proceeded to land 1 brown 16" and miss 4 more in a large pool known as Hemlock Run which is part of the special regs. no kill zone.
All fish hit a heavily weighted #6 Sirloin.
A good start to the 2008 season.

March 5th witnessed warm temps. and open water on The West Branch of the Ausable special regulations zone, determined to land a fish, I hit the water all day, missing three fish and landing a 12" wild brown on a heavily weighted Sirloin
